Day By Day Devotional

These Are Strange Times.

We are seeing things taking shape. Things that I would never have imagined. Even twelve months ago, the World was very different from the one in which we now live. We are seeing society embrace that which is evil and calling it good, and rejecting that which is good and calling it evil.

The worldview of our society is shifting from our Christian foundations. The emerging worldview is presently known as ‘Progressive’.

Describing what it means to be Progressive is difficult because it rapidly changes. As each new critic condemns the behavior of those before them, their ‘wokeness’ is redefined. One thing, however, is very clear, and that is the utter hatred of modern Progressives have towards traditional Christians.

Progressives have determined that the Bible is a book of hate. This is because one of the many doctrines that the Bible teaches is a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman. Further to this, it condemns any sexual activity outside of its definition of marriage.

The Progressive definition of marriage is whatever you want it to be. Consequently, there are numerous forms of marriage, that Bible-believing Christians can neither recognize nor celebrate. Therefore a Christian is now deemed to be an evil person and the Bible a hate book, because they discriminate against those who do not conform to their standard, by refusing to celebrate that which is different.

Now as a Christian, you may never speak against a diverse marriage doctrine, you may never have occasion to decline a wedding invitation, but you are still an evil person, because you go to a Church that does not endorse their worldview, and you believe a book that they have rejected. Therefore it is the solemn duty of the progressive society to rid itself of such wickedness.

This change in public opinion has come very rapidly, even as I speak, many will wonder if I am exaggerating. But make no mistake, the shift has happened and it came very quickly.

What does this change mean for us who believe in Jesus? My simple answer is, “I cannot be certain.” I can make educated guesses, however, they remain guesses.

My guess is that our days are numbered. Not because I think we will be obliterated, but rather, I think the return of Jesus is much closer than many expect. And though no one can know the Day or Hour of His return, we can see its approaching.

Since 1948, we have seen Bible Prophecy after Bible Prophecy fulfilled. I suspect in the last few weeks we have seen another prophecy be potentially fulfilled in our midst. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 predicts that just before the return of Jesus, there would be great falling away of Christians. The Church has been in steady decline since World War 2. Some denominations report rates of decline as high as 40% per decade. Last year’s Church is significantly smaller than the Church of 1970, yet our population has doubled from 12 ½ Million to 25 Million.

As we come out from the impact of COVID 19, Churches across the Western World are reporting a further decline of between 40 and 60 %, with many Congregations closing down altogether.

I can think of no other instance, on a global basis, where the Church has seen a falling away of such a magnitude. Is this a fulfillment of an End Time Prophecy? The only qualifier I would have is this question, “Is there more to come in this falling away?”

The recent change in worldview is generating a growing hatred toward Christianity. Therefore, we should expect persecution in the manner of harassment and possibly imprisonment. Victoria already has such legislation in place. Such actions will further thin our ranks, and continue this trend, and we see many abandoning the Faith.

Strangely though, there is a sense of comfort to be had in this. Jesus told us the World would hate us because it hates Him. (Luke 21:12, John 15:20) And it puts a whole new spin on Phillians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I have no special insight as to the timing of the Lord’s return, though I sense it is near. Though we live in strange times, as strangers in a hostile world, know that our Lord will never forsake you or leave you. Hold fast.

Peter Lyne is the Pastor of Cornerstone Christian Church Deception Bay. Peter publishes a Daily Post with the help of other mature Christians, with a focus on teaching Scriptural Truth. In an age where many Theologians and Church Leaders, develop their belief system and then seek to fit the Bible into the beliefs, Peter believes that the exact opposite should be done. Our beliefs should be soundly based in Scripture and we should measure human theories to how well they fit the Bible.
